Program Notes

A true reflection on life after loss, Crippled taps into the essence of what it means to be alive and the role of past experiences in shaping our future. Written and directed by the award-winning Paul David Power and Danielle Irvine, Crippled received critical acclaim for its world premiere at the historic LSPU Hall.

Directly inspired by Paul's childhood in Newfoundland, Crippled follows Tony's journey as he grieves the death of a partner and struggles to live with disability. Believing there to be only one way to escape a life he no longer wants to live, Tony's mind is made up, that is until a stranger appears with other plans.

Dedicated to representing the deaf and disabled community, Paul David Power received the Canada Arts Council’s Cultivate Grant in 2016 for the artistic development of a new work entitled “Crippled”. The script was developed over the span of two years in collaboration with award winning playwright Robert Chafe as dramaturge.

Performances of Crippled on July 5 + 10 will be ASL interpreted.
