Tulugak: Inuit Raven Stories
Because Tulugak: Inuit Raven Stories is an ensemble piece, made up of a series of songs, stories and performances, there are no individual characters like in a play. There is one actor (Mike Thomsen) who plays the main Raven, appearing in different stories throughout the play – he is born into a clown act, falls into the belly of a whale and flies through the songs that are sung. There are many other ravens seen throughout the play. They are born and they play and they squabble and they dance.
Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory
Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory is a narrator figure and she leads us through this many-storied world of Tulugak. Speaking in all four languages of this play, Laakkuluk’s stage persona takes us to scary and fun places and helps to lead us home again!
Other performers that will appear in Tulugak: Inuit Raven Stories include drummers, throat singers, clowns, students from the National Theatre School of Greenland and Inuit rock stars. Some of the most popular singers from Inuit regions in Canada and Greenland will be in the show, and their names are listed below:
