TRANSFORMATIONS: Girl in Water

By Mariam Barry / rice & beans theatre

Mariam Barry’s piece Girl in Water is a visual poem that explores migration and radical joy from an African diasporic lens. In this work, Mariam imagines new futures for Black people in Canada as cross-cultural spaces where Black folks can experience freedom on their own terms.

Girl in Water takes place on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Commissioned by rice & beans theatre.
