Sarah Podemski weaves dream catchers, finding strength in a community of Indigenous artists reclaiming traditions and uplifting their voices.
Sarah Podemski is an Anishinaabe/Ashkenazi multidisciplinary artist from Toronto. From her first role in the German TV series Blue Hawk at the age of 11, to her award-winning performance in the TIFF selection Mekko, directed by Sterlin Harjo, Sarah has been passionate about recreating the Indigenous narrative that has been misrepresented since the beginning of cinema.
Sarah Podemski is an Anishinaabe/Ashkenazi multidisciplinary artist from Toronto. From her first role in the German TV series Blue Hawk at the age of 11, to her award-winning performance in the TIFF selection Mekko (directed by Sterlin Harjo), Sarah has been passionate about recreating the Indigenous narrative that has been misrepresented since the beginning of cinema. Sarah’s many credits include CBC’s The Coroner, Syfy’s Resident Alien and, most recently, the Peabody and Independent Spirit Award-winning series, Reservation Dogs created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi.
Sarah is also the owner of Totem Designs where she creates one-of-a-kind dreamcatchers with a modern twist. She was proud to represent this traditional artform as one of five Indigenous artists out of 800 artisans at the 2019 One of a Kind Show in Toronto and was featured in the 2019 Christmas Gift Guide on HGTV.com.
Sarah Podemski est une artiste pluridisciplinaire anishinaabe et ashkénaze. Depuis ses débuts à 11 ans dans la série télévisée allemande Blue Hawk jusqu’à son rôle primé dans Mekko, film de Sterlin Harjo sélectionné au TIFF, la Torontoise cherche à se réapproprier les récits autochtones, le 7e art ayant toujours présenté un portait déformé des Autochtones. À la télévision, on a pu la voir dans les séries The Coroner (CBC) et Resident Alien (Syfy), et plus récemment dans Reservation Dogs, série créée par Sterlin Harjo et Taika Waititi et primée aux Peabody Awards et Independent Spirit Awards.
Sarah Podemski est également propriétaire de Totem Designs, une entreprise spécialisée dans la création de capteurs de rêves originaux, avec un petit côté moderne. En 2019, elle fait partie des cinq artistes autochtones à s’illustrer au salon One of a Kind de Toronto aux côtés de 800 autres artisans et artisanes. Cette même année, ses créations se sont retrouvées dans la sélection des cadeaux de Noël du site Web HGTV.com.
