Capsule: A WISH FOR MY SON

By Chengxin Wei

A Wish for My Son is a dance film that was created in response to the drastic increase in racist attacks toward Chinese people in Vancouver during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Through the lens of a father and an artist, Chengxin Wei shares his feeling of sorrow, desolation, and despair during the pandemic and how it particularly affects young children. Most importantly, the choreographer wants to draw awareness to the issue of targeted racism against East Asians and to urge everyone to unite together to stop racism.
