  Playwright deidre “d-lishus” walton

  deidre “d-lishus” walton is a poet and playwright activist who stands proudly on the shoulders of her ancestors and other Black feminist forces-to-be-reckoned-with. Her work has been featured in festivals such as Toronto Pride, triggerfest, rock.paper.sistahz!, Clean Sheets, Queer West Arts Fest, Mayworks Toronto, International Dub Fest, Junction Arts Festival and Calabash International Literary Festival. Her writings have been published in Our Times, Canada's labour magazine, and in Refractions: Scenes by Canada Playwright's Press. d-lishus uses her Afro-Jamaican one-love dub stylings to create evocative stories that underscore our common humanity and enrich the canadian multi-culti mosaic.

  Deidre « D-Lishus » Walton est une poète et dramaturge engagée qui suit fièrement les traces de ses ancêtres et d’autres féministes noires qui sont de réelles forces de la nature. Ses œuvres ont été présentées dans des festivals comme la Fierté de Toronto, les festivals Trigger, rock.paper.sistahz, Clean Sheets, Queer West Arts et Mayworks (Toronto), l’International Dub Gathering, le festival artistique Junction et le festival international de littérature Calabash. Ses écrits ont été publiés dans Our Times, un magazine canadien prosyndical, et dans Refractions: Scenes de Playwrights Canada Press. D-Lishus s’inspire de son esthétique dub « one love » afro-jamaïcaine pour créer des récits évocateurs qui font ressortir notre humanité commune et qui enrichissent la mosaïque multiculturelle canadienne.

  Sound Designer Riel Reddick-Stevens

  Alongside acting, Riel works as a composer, playwright and arts educator.

  She and collaborator Aaron Jan, were the inaugural recipients of Highland art theatre’s Rita Joe Playwriting award for their musical LAYUP. Riel is also the founder of Roots of Creation; a collective dedicated to providing Black Nova Scotian youth with accessible artistic training and experiences.

  Riel is interested in creating art that centers the Black and Queer experiences; with themes of coming of age, sexuality, and discovering self. She is also interested in discovering how different mediums like music, dance, film and written text can intertwine with each other to tell compelling stories.

  Coming from a background of performing in musical theatre and acting she has training experience from Randolph College, and National Theatre school’s acting program.

  Select recent acting credits include; a one woman show Celestial Bodies (Jimmy Blais, Geordie theatre / YPT), Unity 1918 (Ken Schwartz, Two Planks and a Passion), and Electra (Claudia Alick, CALLING UP).

  Riel est actrice, compositrice, dramaturge et formatrice en arts.

  Elle et son collaborateur Aaron Jan ont reçu le prix Rita Joe de la dramaturgie décerné par le Highland Arts Theatre pour leur comédie musicale LAY UP. Riel est aussi la fondatrice de Roots of Creation, un collectif qui a pour mission d’offrir aux jeunes personnes noires de la Nouvelle-Écosse des formations et des expériences artistiques accessibles.

  Riel souhaite créer de l’art qui met en valeur l’expérience des personnes noires et queer, avec comme thèmes le passage à l’âge adulte, la sexualité et la découverte de soi. Elle s’intéresse aussi à la façon dont différents médiums, comme la musique, la danse, le film et le texte, peuvent s’entremêler pour créer des récits prenants.

  Forte d’une expérience dans la comédie musicale et le jeu d’actrice, elle a suivi une formation au Collège Randolph et le programme d’interprétation de l’École nationale de théâtre.

  Parmi les dernières productions auxquelles elle a participé, on compte : le spectacle solo Celestial Bodies (Jimmy Blais, Geordie theatre/YPT), Unity (1918) (Ken Schwartz, Two Planks and a Passion) et Electra (Claudia Alick, Calling Up Justice).

  Producer/Creator Misé Johns

  Misé Johns is a Kenyan-Canadian multidisciplinary artist dedicated to innovating across digital and traditional disciplines to create work that challenges expectations and meets an ever-changing need for novelty in entertainment. As the Artistic Director of Ĕthos Cultura, he culminates a decade of experience in the arts, mentorship and mental health to produce immersive installations that both engage audiences in new and meaningful ways, and bring people together around the ideas and values that can optimize the quality of our experiences as human beings.

  Featured on CBC, his flagship production, Guerrier, has come to fruition as a modern multimedia interactive experience to address human connection ‘post’-covid and in the digital age. Playing to a completely sold out run at the 2023 Montreal Fringe Festival, this one of a kind production converges video, animation, live performance and audience interplay to stimulate all the senses in a world of renewed possibility. Proudly half Kenyan, Misé deduces from his roots to inform the themes and aesthetic of this AfroFuturistic mission.

  As a member of the Black Theatre Workshop AMP ensemble, his latest piece : On Which We Stand, a fully comprehensive and innovative take on the traditional land acknowledgement will be featured at the NAC.

  Passionné par l’innovation dans différentes disciplines tant traditionnelles que numériques, l’artiste canado-kényan Misé Johns crée des œuvres qui déjouent les attentes et répondent à un besoin constamment renouvelé de nouveauté et de divertissement. Comme directeur artistique de Ĕthos Cultura, il combine dix ans d’expérience dans le domaine des arts, en mentorat et en santé mentale pour produire des installations immersives qui interpellent le public de façon nouvelle et importante et qui rassemblent les gens autour d’idées et de valeurs capables d’améliorer l’expérience humaine.

  Diffusée sur CBC, sa production phare, Guerrier, a pris la forme d’une expérience multimédia interactive moderne abordant les contacts humains postpandémiques à l’ère du numérique. Ayant fait salle comble au Festival Fringe de Montréal en 2023, cette production unique allie vidéo, animation, spectacle scénique et interactions avec le public pour stimuler tous les sens dans un monde de possibilités renouvelées. Fier d’être à moitié kényan, Misé puise dans ses origines pour alimenter les thèmes et l’esthétique de sa mission afrofuturiste.

  Puisqu’il est membre du programme de mentorat artistique du Black Theatre Workshop, sa dernière œuvre, On Which We Stand, qui propose une vision complète et novatrice de la reconnaissance du territoire traditionnel, sera présentée par le CNA.

  Performer Audrey-Shana Ferus

  Audrey Ferus is a Montreal based actress recently graduated from Dawson College’s Professional Theatre Program. Through her Dawson career she was allowed to explore her range from the tragic events following the character of Dora in Our Class to the amusing clown, Mengo, in the After Fuenteovejuna production as well as the mechanical role of Flute (Thisbe) in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She was also able to start her professional career in the production of Pool, No Water (where she played #4) put on by Persephone Productions at the Segal Center in September 2022.

  Audrey Ferus est une actrice montréalaise qui a récemment terminé le programme de théâtre professionnel du Collège Dawson. Dans le cadre de ses études, elle a pu explorer différents types de rôles, du personnage tragique de Dora, dans Notre classe, au clown amusant Mengo, dans After FuenteovejunaI, en passant par le rôle mécanique de Flûte (Thisbé) dans Le songe d’une nuit d’été. D’ailleurs, elle a aussi lancé sa carrière en jouant le n^o 4 dans Pool (No Water) des Persephone Productions au Centre Segal, en septembre 2022.

  Performer Alia Ettienne

  Alia Ettienne is a Afro-Caribbean multidisciplinary artist and facilitator from Toronto, ON. After studying Performance at Sheridan College she moved on to explore Creative Writing and Arts Marketing. Her first solo piece YellowZoned premiered in The 2016 Toronto Fringe Festival, later remounting twice in Hamilton,ON. This led to her being featured in Hamilton’s View’s Magazine. She founded her creative wellness program, Chill N Do Art five years ago and has since expanded to include the Creative Coping Kits Initiative, which was featured on the Toronto blog She In The City. Currently, she is most focused on developing her second show Allow For Release: The Xiety Complex, fulfilling her role as Coordinator of the Accessible Futures Program. Her three-panel installation was previously showcased on the TTC at Ossington subway station as she was chosen to be a part of the RBC Desire Lines III Cohort. In addition to this, she welcomed her first child, Caden, this past April.

  Alia Ettienne est une animatrice et artiste multidisciplinaire afro-caribéenne de Toronto. Après avoir étudié l’interprétation au Collège Sheridan, elle s’est mise à explorer la création littéraire et le marketing pour les arts. Sa première œuvre en solo, YellowZoned, a été présentée en première au Festival Fringe de Toronto, puis a été montée deux fois à Hamilton, en Ontario, attirant ainsi l’attention du magazine local View. Il y a cinq ans, Alia a fondé son propre programme de bien-être, Chill N Do Art, qu’elle a depuis élargi pour inclure l’initiative Creative Coping Kits, dont il a été question dans le blogue torontois She In The City. Actuellement, elle se concentre surtout sur la création de son deuxième spectacle, Allow For Release: The Xiety Complex, dans le cadre de son rôle de coordinatrice du programme Accessible Futures. Son installation en trois volets a été précédemment présentée à la station de métro Ossington de Toronto, après qu’elle ait été choisie pour faire partie de la troisième cohorte du programme Desire Lines de RBC. En plus de tout ça, elle a accueilli Caden, son premier enfant, en avril dernier.

  Performer Micha Cromwell

  Micha Cromwell is a Robert Merritt Award Winner for an Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role. She has performed at the National Arts Centre, in Chasing Champions (Ship’s Company Theatre) and The Westwoods (Mulgrave Road Theatre). She performed the roles of Horatio and Ophelia in Hamlet (Below the Salt Theatre). Other theatre credits: Unity 1918 (Two Planks and a Passion Theatre), Macbeth (Two Planks and a Passion Theatre). She has worked on various TV productions including Diggstown (CBC), Mr. D (CBC) and season 2 of the award-winning limited series Studio Black! (CBC). Film credits include: Night Blooms(Shut up and Colour Productions) and A Walk in the Sun (Ubuntu Media). Micha is African Nova Scotian and a proud descendant of the Black Loyalists.

  Keleshaye Christmas-Simpson is an emerging theatre artist from Toronto, ON. After spending many years as a competitive dancer, Keleshaye decided to further her studies in Sheridan College’s Performing Arts Prep Program. There she worked to become a well-rounded artist, studying dance, direction, stage management and more. Keleshaye has had the opportunity to travel around North American to engage and learn through the arts. Now Keleshaye is ready to share her knowledge and passion for the arts with the world.   Keleshaye Christmas-Simpson est une artiste de la relève originaire de Toronto. Après avoir passé de nombreuses années comme danseuse de compétition, Keleshaye a décidé de suivre un programme de préparation aux arts de la scène au Collège Sheridan. C’est là qu’elle est devenue une artiste accomplie en étudiant la danse, la direction, la régie, et plus. Elle a eu la chance de voyager en Amérique du Nord pour apprendre et nouer des relations grâce à l’art. Elle est désormais prête à faire part au monde de ses connaissances et de sa passion pour le domaine. Keleshaye aimerait remercier les membres de sa famille, celle de sang comme celle qu’elle a choisie : leur appui vaut tout l’or du monde.   Sound Designer Alex Cameron

  Alex aka Cloud (she/her) is an actor, musician, and sound designer based in Toronto. An alumni of emerging artists' programs such as Nightwood Innovators, TENT, Crane Creations' Summer Ensemble, ACTRA Diversity’s inaugural A Different Lens, and Paprika Festival, she is excited to tell stories by seamlessly crossing the boundaries of creative disciplines and media forms. Alex is happy to be with AMP to explore how theatrical sound is a creative spark as fundamental as performance and dramaturgy. Credits as an actor include Lunchmates (ACTRA Diversity), Beginning the Middle With the End (UTM EDSS), Three Sisters (Tarragon YPU reading), Gay Mean Girls (KindaTV), and her solo-ish show Dreams (Toronto Fringe 2022), which was self-directed and sound designed. Sound design credits include House of Whale (Monologue Slam for Toronto Fringe 2023), Into the Woods (Dead Name Theatre), Wheel of the Year Walks (b current Performing Arts), BOOM! (Paprika Festival), and Hermaphroditus (Dead Name Theatre for Toronto Fringe 2023).

  Alex ou « Cloud » (elle) est une actrice, musicienne et conceptrice sonore de Toronto. Ayant suivi des programmes pour artistes de la relève – comme Nightwood Innovators, TENT, Summer Ensemble de Crane Creations, A Different Lens (premier programme de diversité d’ACTRA) et le festival Paprika – elle a à cœur de raconter des histoires en franchissant discrètement les frontières des disciplines et des médiums. Alex est heureuse de participer au Programme de mentorat aux artistes pour explorer la façon dont, au théâtre, le son est un moyen de stimuler la créativité aussi fondamental que l’interprétation ou la dramaturgie. Comme actrice, elle a joué dans Lunchmates (ACTRA Diversity), Beginning the Middle With the End (UTM EDSS), Three Sisters (Tarragon YPU Readings), Gay Mean Girls (KindaTV) et son spectacle quasi en solo Dreams (Festival Fringe de Toronto 2022), qu’elle a elle-même dirigé et dont elle a réalisé la conception sonore.   Performer Jamal Azémar

  Jamal Azémar is a bilingual actor from Montreal, whose love for acting started at the age of 11 when he starred in his elementary school play. His most recent credits include Witchboard (Chuck Russell) and The Flick (Persephone Productions) at the Centaur Theatre.

  After obtaining his BFA in Acting for the Theatre from Concordia University, Jamal spent his time appearing in short films to develop his skills as a performer. He seeks to work on projects that challenge him and be part of a community where he can grow as an artist.

  When he is not busy with his art, Jamal works alongside his family on helping children from impoverished communities in Haiti and he plans to visit the country one day.

  Jamal est un acteur bilingue de Montréal. Sa passion pour le métier d’acteur est née lorsqu’il avait 11 ans et a joué dans une pièce de théâtre à l’école primaire. Récemment, on a pu le voir dans Witchboard (Chuck Russell) et The Flick (Persephone Productions) au Centaur Theatre.

  Après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en interprétation théâtrale de l’Université Concordia, Jamal n’a cessé de jouer dans des courts métrages pour développer ses talents d’acteur. Il cherche à travailler sur des projets qui repoussent ses limites et à faire partie d’une communauté où il peut évoluer comme artiste.

  Quand il n’est pas trop occupé à ses activités artistiques, Jamal se joint à sa famille pour aider des enfants de communautés pauvres en Haïti, pays qu’il aimerait d’ailleurs visiter un jour.
