Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra continues its 50th Anniversary European Tour in the United Kingdom led by renowned Music Director Alexander Shelley.  Since becoming Music Director of the NAC Orchestra, Maclean‘s has credited Shelley for turning the orchestra “almost overnight… into one of the more audacious orchestras in North America.”

The NAC Orchestra offers a dazzling program at TivoliVredenburg: The beautiful program opens with French-Canadian composer Claude Vivier’s haunting work Lonely Child featuring soprano Erin Wall.  Next, brilliant Canadian violinist James Ehnes will take the stage to perform Mendelssohn’s beloved and dramatic Violin Concerto. Audiences will quickly hear why The Guardian describes his playing as "hair-raisingly virtuosic”.  The evening ends on a bucolic note with Brahms’ optimistic and forthright Second Symphony, once described as “all rippling streams, blue sky, sunshine, and cool green shadows.”
