Dancing the Land

When The Earth Cries Out

Beany John

This piece is inspired by the disconnect between humans and the rest of Creation. The dance starts as a remembering – honouring the four directions, the four medicines, and how we once held up Mother Earth as our matriarch. The images throughout show the gifts she offers, and each picture describes a traditional story or prophecy. In the beginning, the stories focus on the natural world, and then on the celestial world. Next, the dance brings these together, showing that we need to embody the connection between the celestial world and the natural world.
