The National Arts Centre would like to thank Hilary Weston and her husband Galen for opening their their home to artists and leading philanthropists in support of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards. In a heart-warming speech from the staircase in the Weston’s home, his Excellency Governor General David Johnston said the annual awards showcase the very best of what it is to be Canadian, “a country that is smart, caring and full of soul.”

The awards are the highest lifetime achievement bestowed on Canadian artists. Past recipients including jazz musician and composer Phil Nimmons and pioneering broadcaster Moses Znaimer mingled with guests including the President of the NAC Peter Herrndorf and his wife Eva Czigler, Jayne Watson the CEO of the NAC Foundation, Doug Knight the Chair of the Governor General Performing Arts Awards and his wife Shelley Ambrose of Walrus Magazine. Members of the National Committee that support the awards including Susan Glass and Arni Thorsteinson, Salah Bachir and Kate Alexander Daniels were in attendance.
