The NAC Orchestra Romances Listeners with a Quartet of Recordings

Darlings of the muses en

Under the direction of  NAC Orchestra Music Director Alexander Shelley,  the NAC Orchestra released new recordings in the spring of 2020 featuring Romantic music by  Clara and  Robert  Schumann,  and Johannes Brahms.

The first album, Darlings of the Muses, included improvisations inspired by the music of Clara Schumann by Venezuelan pianist Gabriella Montero. The album also includes Robert Schumann’s and Johannes  Brahms’ First Symphonies, as well as Clara Schumann’s Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 7.

“I have always loved these symphonies and saw many links between them. It’s always been my dream to record them and release them together," says Alexander.  “No story of these two composers is complete without Clara, as famous in her lifetime as her husband, and a strong influence on both Robert and Johannes.”

The remaining three albums that will complete the set will be released over the next two years.

Since 2016, Alexander Shelley has  led exciting recording projects featuring the NAC Orchestra, earning  an incredible five JUNO nominations, including two wins, for Best Classical Composition in 2018 and 2019.
