Frequently asked questions

  • Do I have to live in Ottawa, Saskatoon, or Vancouver to experience Indigenous Cities?

No - this experience is entirely available online.

As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted within the coming months, we do hope to encourage our audiences based in Ottawa, Saskatoon, and Vancouver to safely follow our virtual maps in-person, and listen to these stories while connected to the community where each story is based. We will share more information on this in the coming months, as restrictions are lifted in each city.

  • Will this project happen in other cities in the future?

Yes - we will continue Indigenous Cities in future years, representing cities from all across Canada. Sign up for NAC Indigenous Theatre’s email list to receive updates as we continue to present new stories.

  • How can I experience Indigenous Cities if I need audio / visual support?

Written English-language transcripts of all stories are available on our website. NAC Indigenous Theatre is continuing to work with consultants to develop captioning of video components, as well as create visual story maps for all locations. These additional components will be available on our website later this summer.

  • Whose stories are featured in Indigenous Cities?

The stories featured in Indigenous Cities are inspired by memories shared by Indigenous community members living in Ottawa, Saskatoon, Vancouver. The memories have been interpreted by Indigenous performing artists in these cities, and turned into audio offerings.

NAC Indigenous Theatre has worked closely in partnership with Savage Society and Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre to ensure that we are honouring the unique Indigenous communities living in the regions of Vancouver and Saskatoon.
