Bruce Horak has created more than 20 works for the stage and has appeared in countless professional theatrical productions across Canada and the U.S. He can be seen as Hemmer, the blind alien engineer on Paramount+’s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He has won numerous awards for his theatre work, and his visual art has been showcased at galleries across the country.
Born and raised in Calgary, Ryan currently lives and works in Vancouver as an actor, producer, director, playwright, teacher and improvisor. Ryan holds an MFA in Directing (UBC) and a BFA in Acting (U of C), he also spent ten years studying Improvisation at Loose Moose Theatre under Keith Johnstone. Ryan is currently an adjunct Professor in Theatre at UBC as well as an instructor at Vancouver Film School. Ryan is the founder and Artistic Director of Monster Theatre where he has co-created over 40 original plays.
