Pinchas Zukerman, as conductor and soloist, sets a celebratory tone for this season opening concert. There’s much to love in Mozart’s last violin concerto, from the sublime Adagio to the “unusual sound effects” that account for its nickname. Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony dances with drive and energy, pulsing with vibrant life and joy, and the wild abandon of the final movement is nearly manic. Only restrained listeners will sit still during this exuberant work, which Wagner described perfectly as “the apotheosis of the dance itself.”
