Betroffenheit
“a stunning testament to what can happen when life turns into art”” The Globe and Mail
Two of Canada’s most exciting and adventurous artists – Crystal Pite (Kidd Pivot) and Jonathon Young (Electric Company Theatre) – join forces to create an innovative, boundarystretching dance-theatre collaboration. Touching on powerful themes of loss, trauma, addiction and recovery, Betroffenheit (German for extreme shock or distress) is a series of movements sustaining tension between stasis and passage. Rich in spectacle, it takes place in a timeless, liminal space. With a stellar group of performers and an A-team of artistic collaborators, Pite and Young have woven a fascinating hybrid of drama and pathos, ever teetering between disaster and survival. Betroffenheit will premiere during Panamania, the arts and culture festival accompanying Toronto’s Pan Am Games in summer 2015, before starting a Canadian tour at the NAC.
