If you’re a fan of the violin, then run, don’t walk, to The NAC Gala with Pinchas, Itzhak & Friends, which will be held on Thursday, October 2 in Southam Hall. This is the 18th annual edition of this fabulous fundraiser, and it is Pinchas Zukerman’s ultimate Gala, as his tenure with the National Arts Centre Orchestra ends in August 2015.
Triple threat Pinchas Zukerman is a force of nature who is one of the great violinists of our time – arguably, of all time. He will conduct the NAC Orchestra and also perform as soloist on the violin and the viola. Joining him onstage will be his long-time friend, superstar violinist Itzhak Perlman. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his exceptional talent, Perlman is treasured by audiences worldwide for his remarkable artistry, as well as his irrepressible joy in making music. Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman have earned an unprecedented seventeen GRAMMY® awards between them.
Pinchas characterizes their lasting partnership as having depth both musically and personally, and says of his big Gala night with Perlman, “I look forward to being together again.”
These two extraordinary musicians will be joined by guest artists, many of whom have participated in the NAC’s Summer Music Institute (SMI), a young artist training program founded by Mr. Zukerman in 1999. Repertoire for the NAC Gala is still under discussion, but some of the composers being considered are Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Felix Mendelssohn. With artists of this caliber onstage, the music-making is guaranteed to be extraordinary!
