Music Night at the NAC/The Canadian Dream

The 3rd annual Music Night at the NAC brought together Canadians who adore music whether they work on Parliament Hill, in the business community or the arts. Heritage Minister James Moore hosted the evening sponsored by Quebecor Media and Music Canada to shine a light on two Canadian artists, one from Quebec-Etienne Drapeau and one from English Canada, Johnny Reid.

Laureen Harper, a big music fan was in the audience too, surrounded by music executives and cabinet ministers who settled in for a terrific evening of music.

In his opening remarks, James Moore noted there are too many “walls” that separate the cultural lives of Quebec and English Canada, and that Music Nights are meant to “build bridges” between two of Canada’s dominant cultures.

Johnny Reid, who grew up in Scotland in a small town near Glasgow said, “people always talk about the American dream. Well, I am living proof of the Canadian dream!”  Reid’s comment that drew major applause from the audience.
