Following the success of Grand Acts of Theatre, this summer NAC English Theatre once again brought together some of Canada’s most inventive artists with Grand Acts of Great Hope.

“This open call ignited the imaginations of theatre and dance companies across the country, while also opening the project to musicians, orchestras, circus and other performance groups,” said NAC English Theatre Artistic Director Jillian Keiley. “With this iteration, we hope that we might offer audiences a new hope for the future, inspirations for resilience, and ideas that might help audiences navigate the new priorities in our post-pandemic world.”

Jillian once again teamed up with Sherry J Yoon, Artistic Director of Boca del Lupo (Vancouver), as the Co-Curator of Grand Acts of Great Hope. Jillian and Sherry issued an open call for proposals and received exciting submissions from companies and artists across Canada.

One of the successful submissions came from Theatre Direct, whose Artistic Director Lisa Marie DiLiberto shared, “Thank you so very much to the National Arts Centre for this commission. It was a dream come true.”

Haysam Kadri, Artistic Producer from The Shakespeare Company felt the same. He said,  “The show was an enormous creative gift for all of us and we can’t overstate the beauty and the inspiration that this has given us.”
