Daniel Lanois: What lives outside of measurement

For Daniel Lanois, the most important qualities of an artist not quantifiable.

"It's hard to measure imagination and original thought, instinct, intuition,” the acclaimed producer and musician said. “All those primal powers we possess as adventurers cannot be measured."

Daniel Lanois recently performed with the NAC Orchestra for the Ontario Scene festival.

While backstage, he spoke about his artistic journey, and about receiving the Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 2013. His acceptance speech was in the form of a poem.

"It was really a reminder about how we might get somewhere really special through unusual channels," he said.
