Those of you who follow Dance at the NAC -- and who doesn't?! -- will be thrilled to learn that the very first show of the 2012-2013 Dance season is The Tempest Replica by Crystal Pite/Kidd Pivot. Inspired by Shakespeare's final play -- and one of his most poignant -- multi-award-winning Canadian dance phenom Crystal Pite stages a gripping game of revenge and forgiveness, reality and imagination.
Kidd Pivot is well known -- and internationally-acclaimed -- for seamlessly integrating movement, original music, text, rich visual design, and a keen sense of wit and invention. Swathed in white light, shadows abounding, highly theatrical (including a film montage), The Tempest Replica features chalk-white replicas delivering the essential plot points of the story, with heightened tension and emotion. Crystal Pite's choreography complements the exquisite physicality of her dancers, their seemingly boneless fluidity heightening the drama of the narrative.
The Tempest Replica is part of Series B (at 7:30 in the Theatre) and it's on for two nights, September 27 and 28. Tickets are going fast, so run, don't walk!
As the lovely Miranda says when she sees a group of men (or are they Kidd Pivot dancers?) in The Tempest:
