A Landmark Partnership

The Metcalfe – Official Hotel Partner of NAC Presents

Artists from across the country who perform as part of the NAC Presents, in partnership with BMO Financial Group series stay at one of Ottawa’s landmark hotels – The Metcalfe. A partner of the National Arts Centre since 2012, The Metcalfe (formerly Hotel Indigo Ottawa) is the Official Hotel of NAC Presents and has hosted artists from across the country, from the Canadian music scene’s up-and-comers to its icons.

The history of The Metcalfe is as storied as the artists who have stayed there. Sitting on the former site of the home of Sir George-Etienne Cartier, forefather of Confederation, the historic building built in 1909 was Ottawa’s “state-of-the art” YMCA featuring 97 dormitory rooms, a basement plunge bath, bowling alley and rifle range. A young Yousuf Karsh was a resident in the dormitories while he worked to establish himself as a photographer in the city, and later when the YMCA moved sites and the building became a hotel, you could find politicians, writers, artists and Ottawa’s elite having a drink in the well appointed bar.

While you won’t find a bowling alley or rifle range at The Metcalfe today, you will find live music being performed in the trendy lobby, Ottawa’s young professional and hipster crowd enjoying a cocktail, and you may just stumble across one of our country’s most exciting musicians waiting for a car to take them to their sound check on one of the NAC’s four stages. Check out The Metcalfe for yourself, and then come to the NAC for an NAC Presents performance. You’re in for a treat!

NAC Presents, in partnership with BMO Financial Group announced a new line-up of artists on May 16, for the 2018 – 2019 season. In addition to Official Hotel of NAC Presents, The Metcalfe, the NAC wishes to thank title partner BMO Financial Group, the Slaight Family Foundation for its support of emerging artists, Downtown Rideau BIA supporting partner of Fridays at the Fourth, and Official Car of NAC Presents Mark Motors of Ottawa Audi.
