Born in 1969 in Hauterive, Quebec (now part of Baie-Comeau), Mara Tremblay spent her early childhood near the St. Lawrence, breathing in the fresh air of the North Shore. When she was five, her family moved to Montreal, where she studied music and absorbed the influences of a creative and inspiring milieu.

Mara’s raw yet romantic lyrics reflect her deep sensitivity and have earned her a loyal following of thousands of fans. Blending country, rock, pop and folk influences, her sound is inventive, original, and meticulously crafted in collaboration with carefully selected musical associates.

Her third album, Les nouvelles lunes, was released in 2005, followed in 2009 by Tu m’intimides. Hailed by reviewers as one of the best albums of the decade, the latter release marked a turning point in her artistic career.

In the fall of 2011, Mara added another feather to her cap with the launch of her first novel, Mon amoureux est une maison d’automne, published by Éditions Les 400 coups. Praised by reviewers and readers alike, the novel confirmed Mara’s status as a literary artist.

Her fifth studio album, the eponymous Mara Tremblay, a compilation of re-recordings of some of her most successful songs, was released in October 2011 and invited listeners to discover or rediscover this talented artist’s current sound. She continued to tour throughout Quebec and beyond. It’s in live performance—whether solo or as part of an ensemble—that her special relationship with her audiences really comes to the fore.

Five years after the launch of her most recent album of original songs, Mara is currently working on another, scheduled for release in fall 2014. Together with producers Olivier Langevin and Pierre Girard, her longtime associates, she’s aiming to make this album just as authentic and creative as its forerunners. If past performance is anything to go by, we’re betting this talented artist is more than up to the challenge!
