Meet Xavier Forget. He’s the Associate Producer of French Programming for NAC Presents, the National Arts Centre’s Canadian music series.
Since its creation in 2011, not only has Xavier programmed some of Canada’s biggest Francophone artists – Ariane Moffat, Pierre Lapointe, Jean Leloup – he’s also lined up emerging stars like Alex Nevsky, Patrice Michaud, Caracol and Pierre Kwenders. Their musical styles are eclectic: rock, pop, folk and even hip-hop. Last season Xavier presented as part of NAC Presents, seven of the 10 big winners of the ADISQ award – Quebec’s version of the Grammys or JUNOs.
Some say Xavier’s got a crystal ball. He’ll tell you he’s just programming artists who have an original sound that audiences appreciate. His secret: listen to lots of diverse music and see as many shows as humanly possible.
(No wonder he needs a bike to get from his office to the stage!)
