Fourth Stage,1 Elgin Street,Ottawa,CanadaCanadian indie singer-songwriter Kaleigh Watts is set to release her debut album “Smoke Lake” early this fall. The release of this album will coincide with a concert at the National Arts Centre of Canada on Saturday September 13, 2014. The majority of the album was recorded without electricity in Kaleigh’s family cabin on Smoke Lake, Algonquin Park (Ontario, Canada). “Smoke Lake” is an experimental project that features voice, organic textures, and field recordings of Smoke Lake’s soundscape. The album release performance at the NAC Fourth Stage will feature two juxtaposing sets, including a re-creation of her “Smoke Lake” album and a set of urban inspired original tunes.
Originally from the small-town of Lakefield, Ontario, Watts, who now resides in Ottawa, will be graduating with a Bachelor of Music from Carleton University’s Singer-Songwriter program. Throughout her schooling, Watts has been mentored by Juno Award and Canadian Folk Award winner Lynn Miles. Watts’ vocal style is described as raw and hauntingly beautiful, which perfectly compliments her rhythmic fingerpicking on acoustic guitar and pairs well with the timbre of her würlitzer electric piano. Live on stage, Watts uses a loop station to create an orchestra of sounds and harmonies. Watts’ old soul is illustrated in her poetic writing and live performance charisma.
