GYMNOPÉDIES, HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS
“[HENRI MICHAUX: MOUVEMENTS] …brought the visual art alive with tribal athleticism and raw, unfiltered honesty, and ended with a surge of energy. The result was remarkable.”” Adrienne Totino, The Pittsburgh Examiner, September 30, 2013
From page to stage to piano, two new works – inspired by the visual arts and music – display the unbridled imagination of master choreographer (and NAC Associate Dance Artist) Marie Chouinard. The visually arresting HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS features ten dancers forming stunning silhouettes and sequences to mirror projections of drawings by Belgian surrealist Michaux. Chouinard then enters the heart of French master of modernism Érik Satie in GYMNOPÉDIES. While taking turns playing the piano, ten dancers perform loving, sensual, erotic duets to the composer’s haunting work.
