A concert in Guangzhou! The musicians and Music Director of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra will create a concert of gorgeous, rich sound and stunning musicianship as they present a night of both contemporary Canadian music and classical repertoire before a live audience.
There is nothing like a live performance by an extraordinary orchestra to lift and transport you to a realm of beauty, of powerful sound and imagery. In Guangzhou, hear Pinchas Zukerman, the Music Director of the NAC Orchestra and a brilliant, international superstar violinist. Zukerman performs Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 – a piece for which he received a rave review from the New York Times’ classical music critic when he performed it in New York in January. Also in this concert, experience the ecstacy of Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, and the contemporary sounds and structures of Canadian composer John Estacio’s Brio: Toccata and Fantasy for Orchestra.
On this first China Tour in its 44-year history, the National Arts Centre Orchestra performs and teaches in schools and concert halls from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, Chongqing and Fuling, to Tianjin, Beijing and Shanghai. With the support of Honorary Patron Richard Li and Presenting Partner Aimia, the NAC Orchestra will perform 8 major concerts between October 4 and 21, with more than 80 education and outreach activities and five international broadband videoconference events linking young musicians in Canada and China.
