The Romance of Improvisation in Canada reimagines the music of the great Canadian film composer Eldon Rathburn and was recorded in February 2018 at the National Film Board’s historic studio in Montreal. Arguably Canada’s most prolific composer of film music, Rathburn frequently blended influences ranging from classical, bluegrass, country, blues, electronic, avant-garde, church and dance music genres, to popular music and jazz into a delightful mélange.
The night will take you on a journey where you will get to see some of the short films that Rathburn scored, get insight from the arrangers of this project Allyson Rogers and Adrian Matte as well as the author of “They Shot, He Scored: The Life and Music of Eldon Rathburn”, James Wright.
Then take in this music by a carefully selected all-star combo which takes the listener on a voyage rediscovering Rathburn’s music in a new light.
