Overlap, the first play by Acadian activist and columnist Céleste Godin, is both a love letter and an unflinching critique from a group of young people to the city that has watched them grow up and may never let them leave. Overlap, the first play by Acadian activist and columnist Céleste Godin, is both a love letter and an unflinching critique from a group of young people to the city that has watched them grow up and may never let them leave.

Where do you belong when everyone knows each other? How do you escape from yourself when every street in the city can be your reflection? Featuring a tragic chorus in chiac (Acadian French) delivered with passion by five emerging performers, Overlap turns Moncton into a sometimes ruthless, sometimes friendly character—an overly familiar character. Through the tense and twisted bodies of the actors, the nobility and challenges of life in the region take incandescent shape. Céleste Godin deftly captures the zest for life and the desire to reinvent themselves of today’s Acadian youth.

Skilfully blending movement with powerful and contemporary language, Overlap offers a daring and far from consensual experience in which the playwright fears neither words nor judgments.
