  Theatre Hunter and Gatherer

  It’s as if Sophie Gee can see theatre where no one else can! With her company, Nervous Hunter (named for a poem by Rimbaud), she pursues theatricality, sometimes travelling as far as Iceland (I am such a small container for all this), sometimes transforming a vast stage into a pool of water (The Phaedra Project). The constant in the work of this graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada is the decompartmentalization of disciplines, the convergence and interaction of theatre, dance and performance. Lévriers also reflects her desire to give a voice to actors and non-actors of all backgrounds (ages, cultures, languages).

  C’est comme si Sophie Gee voyait du théâtre là où on n’en voyait pas ! Avec sa compagnie, Nervous Hunter (nommée en hommage à un vers de Rimbaud), elle pourchasse la théâtralité, parfois jusqu’en Islande (I am such a small container for all this), parfois en transformant la scène vaste en mare d’eau comme pour The Phaedra Project. Toujours, dans le travail de cette diplômée de l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada, il y a ce décloisonnement des disciplines : art dramatique, danse et performance se répondent. Lévriers témoigne aussi de son désir de céder la parole à des acteurs et des non-acteurs de tous horizons (âge, culture, langue).

  Authoress in resonance

  Autrice (authoress) is the title she has resolutely claimed as a feminist statement, the word having been slyly sidelined by the Académie française until the 2019 reform. Pénélope Bourque likes to anchor her dramaturgical practice in her encounters with various communities. For the collective Ce n’était pas du vin, she wrote Iseult & Evaelle – un beau conte d’amour et de mort (2016), in collaboration with teenagers, and Jaunes et rouges brillent les étoiles (2017), in collaboration with senior citizens. In 2018, she joined the exuberantly eclectic team of Lévriers to help create the show’s script. At Joe Jack et John, she oversees the texts and helps with administration. She trained at the National Theatre School of Canada.

  Autrice, c’est le titre qu’elle revendique depuis longtemps comme prise de position féministe, le mot ayant été sournoisement éradiqué par l’Académie française jusqu’à la réforme en 2019. Pénélope Bourque aime ancrer sa pratique dramaturgique dans la rencontre avec diverses communautés. Avec le collectif Ce n’était pas du vin, elle signe Iseult & Evaelle – un beau conte d’amour et de mort (2016), en collaboration avec des adolescents, et Jaunes et rouges brillent les étoiles (2017), avec des personnes âgées. En 2018, elle accompagne dans l’écriture de plateau l’équipe joyeusement hétéroclite de Lévriers. Chez Joe Jack et John, elle chapeaute les textes et participe à l’administration. Elle a étudié à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada.
