Fortunate Ones is the acclaimed folk-pop duo of singer/pianist/accordion player Catherine Allan and singer/guitarist Andrew James O'Brien. The pair grew up on opposite sides of Newfoundland and met in St. John’s in 2010. Within 48 hours of that first encounter, they were singing together. Since then, they’ve toured the country from coast to coast, picked up a JUNO Award nomination, and won the 2015 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year.

The duo unfailingly endear themselves to audiences through their smooth harmonies reminiscent of The Civil Wars – harmonies so clear and achingly fine it’s almost possible to believe it’s a single voice you’re hearing. The evolution of Fortunate Ones is in keeping with one of the core messages they carry – that sometimes the most important decision you can make is just to say yes.

This concert is part of Canada Scene’s free Scene@6 series. Running every evening at 6:00 from July 2 to 23, the series showcases this country’s top folk, roots, world, and jazz artists in the NAC’s new Atrium.
