“Shanghai Ballet is noted for its refinement and disciplined rigour.” Robert Kilborn, westmountmag.ca
- Choreography Marius Petipa, adapted by Xin Lili
An unqualified triumph at its first performance in Paris in 1841, Giselle has become one of the most beloved of the great classical ballets. This heartwrenching tale of a lovely peasant girl betrayed in love transports us from the joyful colour of rustic harvest celebrations, to the silvery stillness of the world of the Wilis – the malevolent spirits of forsaken women who will put Giselle’s love to the test.
Noted for the elegance and superb technique of its dancers, the prestigious Shanghai Ballet returns after nearly 30 years to the NAC with this magnificent production.
