In June of 1969, the National Arts Centre opened to the public. Over this summer, the 25 millionth ticket in NAC history was sold. Imagine how many performances, events, and artists have graced the NAC stages to reach that magical number? As the NAC Box Office opens for single ticket sales, the National Arts Centre will celebrate that number with one lucky patron!

2013-14 marks the 45^th Season at the NAC and in honour of the 25 millionth NAC ticket being sold this summer, one lucky patron will win a NAC Prize pack. Purchase your tickets on September 3^rd at the NAC Box Office and you may be the lucky NAC ticket buyer and win your purchase, along with dinner for two at Le Café and parking*.
 

A new season of spectacular performances is about to begin at The National Arts Centre and now is the time to make sure you are a part of it when tickets go on sale, Tuesday, September 3 at 10 a.m.! The greatest names in arts and entertainment – from across Canada and around the world -- will be featured in music, theatre, and dance performances on all the NAC stages. This is your chance to get your tickets before our exciting productions sell out!

On Tuesday, September 3 at 10 a.m., single tickets for NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre and NAC Presents for 2013-14 go on sale as the NAC Box Office officially opens.

September 11, 2013: NAC French Theatre Begins
Spurred by the tremendous success of her first season as Artistic Director of NAC French Theatre, Brigitte Haentjens and her colleague Mélanie Dumont, Associate Artistic Director, Youth programming, are inviting audiences to discover stories told differently as well as musical presentations; strong pieces exploring themes such as exile and identity, rich with the poetry of speech and body. Inspired by Nietzsche’s quote: “Thoughts are the shadows of our feelings – always darker, emptier and simpler,” the 19 incisive works presented in the French Theatre 2013-14 season are an opportunity to probe our innermost intimate selves, and to forge a deep and meaningful bond with art and its mysteries.

The season will get started on September 11^th with local production Je n’y suis plus, followed closely by an innovative happening merging poetry and music with Thomas Hellman chante Roland Giguère.

September 19, 2013: NAC Orchestra Season Begins
Pinchas Zukerman and the National Arts Centre Orchestra invite you to experience the gorgeous, thrilling music of their 2013-2014 concert season, beginning September 19^th with the Romantic Festival. Feel the rush of emotions embodied in the music of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Dvořak. NAC Music Director Pinchas Zukerman, an international superstar renowned for his musicality and superb leadership shaping the sound from the conductor’s podium, takes centre stage as solo violinist alongside his Orchestra musicians. His performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 – for which he has received rave reviews from the New York Times critic, among others – is certain to be a highlight of the year. September 21^st, legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka gives a special guest performance at the NAC Gala – a night when the stars come out and the NAC Orchestra donates its performance to raise money for the National Youth Education Trust (last year’s charitable tally was three-quarters of a million dollars). The Orchestra’s September to June concert season can be enjoyed one concert at a time or purchased as a curated series. Choose what appeals to you, then surrender to the sound. An evening with the NAC Orchestra has a profound and lingering effect.

October 3, 2013: NAC Dance Season Begins
The 2013-2014 NAC Dance season kicks off October 3-4 with Salves, a potent mix of dance and theatre from seminal French choreographer Maguy Marin. Other season highlights include the first appearance since 2001 in the Ballet Series of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal; the ever popular Swan Lake from The National Ballet of Canada; the visually stunning masterpiece Songs of the Wanderers by Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan; the welcome return of a reinvigorated Dance Theatre of Harlem; Akram Khan’s spectacular solo DESH; and the second iteration of the Face 2 Face series, featuring four artists making their NAC debuts.

October 5, 2013: NAC Presents Season Begins
The NAC Presents 2013-14 season celebrates the best of Canada on the national stage by showcasing Canadian legends of all music genres as well as the icons of the future.  A unique singer and multi­‐instrumentalist who has found acclaim for her exuberant live show, soulful voice and well‐crafted songs is opening the season on Oct.5^th in the Theatre. Basia Bulat will perform songs from a newly released album Tall Tall Shadow. Songs from Western Canada will also be featured in An Evening of Cowboy Stories and Song with Ian Tyson and Corb Lund.  NAC Presents is delighted to welcome back Rufus Wainwright for an solo performance on November 2 followed by the psychedelic folk of LeE HARVey OsMond and the synth-pop of JUNO nominee Hannas Georgas; both perform for two evenings in the Fourth Stage.  The little red boots of Lindi Ortega also called “the love child of Johnny Cash and Nancy Sinatra” will share her inimitable, irresistible singing voice in the intimate Fourth Stage. The full 55+ shows lineup will be unveiled by producer Simone Deneau on September 24^th. Stay tuned!

October 15, 2013: NAC English Theatre Season Begins

All Together Now! 2013-14 marks Artistic Director Jillian Keiley’s inaugural season for English Theatre at the National Arts Centre. The season will feature the 2013-14 Ensemble, 10 actors who will take to the stage in three productions. The 2013-14 Theatre series opens with a re-imagining of Molière’s Tartuffe, adapted by and featuring Andy Jones, followed by a special holiday production of The Sound of Music, in which audiences will sing-a-long with the show! Toronto Theatre Critics’ darling Kim’s Convenience by Ins Choi from Soulpepper Theatre (Toronto, ON); Annabel Soutar’s Seeds from Porte Parole (Montreal, QC) featuring Eric Peterson; and the season finale from Artistic Fraud (St. John’s, NL), Robert Chafe’s Oil and Water, directed by Jillian Keiley. The Studio Series launches with Raoul Bhaneja’s award-winning take on Shakespeare with HAMLET (solo), followed by ENRON, Lucy Prebble’s scorching exposé of corporate madness featuring The 2013-2014 Ensemble, and closes with Cliff Cardinal’s one-man tour de force, huff.
