The National Arts Centre English Theatre/Theatre Calgary co-production Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen adapted by Janet Munsil Directed by Dennis Garnhum Featuring the NAC English Theatre Company November 21 – December 8, 2012 NAC Theatre
Ottawa, Ontario – In keeping with tradition, the NAC English Theatre is proud to present an enchanting theatre experience leading up to the holidays. Hot off a sold-out run at Theatre Calgary, a cast of 17 delivers the elegance of Pride and Prejudice to the NAC!
The romantic world of Regency England is brought to vivid life in this sparkling new adaptation by Janet Munsil of Jane Austen’s classical masterpiece about love, family, and the politics of marriage.
When the independent minded Elizabeth Bennet meets the enigmatic Mr. Darcy, her opinions on marriage are profoundly tested. Can he overcome his pride and she her prejudice to make an ideal match in a society where social standing outweighs personal feeling? You’ll delight in watching the sparks fly.
“This is a world premiere adaptation and it has been a delight to develop this work with playwright Janet Munsil over the past year,” says Director Dennis Garnhum. “Through this collaboration with the National Arts Centre and Theatre Calgary, we have assembled an extraordinary company of artists from across Canada to add their voices to the celebration of all that we love about this very romantic – and dare I say necessary – story.”
Take a look behind the scenes with the actors portraying the romantic pair, Tyrell Crews (Mr. Darcy) and Shannon Taylor (Elizabeth Bennet).
Tickets are going fast - you don’t want to miss out on the theatre event of the holiday season!
