Nominations for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Open to the Public
September 7, 2012 (Ottawa) – Canadians are encouraged to nominate their favourite Canadian performing artists for the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA). Nominations for these awards—presented for lifetime artistic achievement in the fields of broadcasting, classical music, dance, film, popular music and theatre, and for voluntarism in the performing arts—can be made online until September 21, 2012.
After September 21, all nominations will be reviewed by a jury of experts in each discipline who will make recommendations of the top candidates. The GGPAA Board of Directors makes the final selection of recipients.
The laureates will be announced in the spring and celebrated at a series of events in Ottawa at the end of May, culminating in a spectacular gala at Canada’s National Arts Centre on June 1, 2013.
The GGPAA are Canada’s foremost distinction for excellence in the performing arts. Since the inception of the awards in 1992, 170 outstanding Canadians have received this prestigious honour. For a complete list of GGPAA recipients, visit ggpaa.ca/award-recipients.
