Canadian contemporary dance icon Louise Lecavalier performs a critically acclaimed program of duets at the NAC on November 18 and 19
More than 10 years after leaving La La La Human Steps, Louise Lecavalier, now with her own company, Fou Glorieux, brings a moving program of duets to the NAC Theatre on November 18 and 19.
Lecavalier founded her contemporary dance company, Fou Glorieux, in 2006 to have the freedom to explore and work with artists whose vision is close to her own. In this new program NAC Associate Dance Artist Louise Lecavalier performs the heartfelt Children, choreographed by Britain’s Nigel Charnock, and revisits three duets by renowned Canadian choreographer, Edouard Lock, in A Few Minutes of Lock.
Children are beautiful, ugly, sweet, annoying, hateful, loving, mad, bad, loud and funny – so is Children, a bittersweet duet which exposes the heaven and hell of a relationship at breaking point. The fine and divine line between love and hate, passion and violence, is revealed as two people are plunged into the agony and the ecstasy of trying to stay together for themselves and for their children.
In her 19-year career with La La La Human Steps as Edouard Lock’s muse and collaborator, Lecavalier became an icon of Canadian contemporary dance thanks to her extraordinary technical prowess and passionate exploration of the limits of physical expression. In A Few Minutes of Lock, Lecavalier revisits three duets from her final years with the celebrated troupe, including excerpts from 2 and Salt.
At just over 50 years of age, Lecavalier remains a Canadian dance icon and this acclaimed program and NAC Dance co-production is a must see for dance fans.
"With her mane of wild hair and her wiry body, Louise Lecavalier seems ageless. She unleashes a fireworks display of breathtaking leaps and movements, at a speed that is hardly comprehensible." Rheinische Post (Düsseldorf)
