Building community through music: National Arts Centre Orchestra to perform for 700 students, teachers and families at CFB Gagetown on Nov. 24
OTTAWA—Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra will perform a bilingual student matinee at CFB Gagetown in Oromocto, NB in honour of the Canadian military and their families on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 at 1 p.m.
The student matinee in CFB Gagetown will be a chance for the NAC Orchestra to offer thanks on behalf of all Canadians to the military and their families for their service to the country. Participating schools in attendance include Hubbard Avenue Elementary School, Cambridge Narrows Community School, Summerhill Elementary School and École Arc-en-ciel.
Media wishing to attend can present themselves to the Base Theatre (located at CFB Gagetown’s main entrance) where the concert is being held.
Led by Canadian conductor and rising star Julian Kuerti, The “Let’s go Mozart!” student matinee will shine the spotlight on CFB Gagetown’s 3 Area Support Group Pipes & Drums, and will feature NAC Orchestra Second Clarinet Sean Rice of St. John’s, NL, actor John Doucet, and local fiddling star Samantha Robichaud. Oromocto Town Crier Fred Hackett will help kick off the festivities.
Before the performance, members of the NAC Orchestra will join enlisted personnel for lunch in the mess hall. Following the matinee, Ms. Robichaud will perform for a smaller group of children at the CFB Family Resource Centre.
The student matinee at CFB Gagetown is made possible in part by Tim Hortons.
The NAC Orchestra’s performance at CFB Gagetown will be the culmination of a 12-day tour of all four Atlantic provinces that started on November 13 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and then travelled to Charlottetown, PEI, Halifax, NS, and Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John, NB.
