All Performances at GCTC

I’m going to tell you the story of Vimy.

Ottawa, ON. - Aided by a nurse from Nova Scotia, four wounded Canadian soldiers recover in a field hospital. It is France. 1917. The wake of the battle for Vimy Ridge. Governor General’s Literary Award-winner Vern Thiessen honours not only those soldiers who did or did not return from that hill, but also those who helped heal the physical and spiritual wounds of the survivors. A powerful story that recalls to memory the sons and daughters who helped define our nation.

For the first time, the National Arts Centre English Theatre and Great Canadian Theatre Company are partnering – in order to bring this Sterling Award-winning play to Ottawa. As part of Remembrance Day activities, this very important production will open on November 11^th.

Response from audiences in relation to this unique co-production has been so overwhelming that the NAC and GCTC are proud to announce Vimy’s extension until Saturday, December 11^th. Six more performances have been added. Please Note: All performances of Vimy play at the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre, home of GCTC.

Vimy stars the NAC English Theatre Company featuring Nicolas Di Gaetano, John Doucet, Jonathan Eliot Koensgen, Kevin Loring, James Stuart Macdonald and Katie Swift.

Working with Director Linda Moore on this production are: Set & Costume Designer Brian Perchaluk; Lighting Designer Jock Munro; Composer and Sound Designer Sandy Moore; Assistant Director Chantale Plante; Fight Director Jean-François Gagnon; Stage Manager Samira Rose; and Apprentice Stage Manager Chantal Hayman.

NAC English Theatre Artistic Director Peter Hinton and GCTC Associate Artistic Director Brian Quirt will be speaking with Vimy playwright Vern Thiessen. Free to the public.

His Name Was Smith: Saturday, November 20 & 27 at 2 p.m., in the Studio of GCTC.
A personal insight into the lives of four WWI soldiers presented by students from the “Lest We Forget” project and military historian Zachary Cavasin. Follows the story of Ottawa area soldier Sgt. J.H.C. Smith, as he joins up and prepares for the battle in the First World War. Complimentary admission.

The Wall of Remembrance

Each November at public gatherings in Ottawa and around the country, Canadians are asked to pause in memory of the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives in military service.

Throughout the run of Vimy you are invited to place tokens of remembrance of family members who have served in our Armed Forces, or to share your tributes and thanks to the many soldiers who have bravely fought for our country. The Wall of Remembrance will be located in GCTC’s main lobby from November 9 to December 11.

Evening performances Tuesday through Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday matinees are at 4 p.m.
Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
(no performances on Mondays)
