Trick or Treat to a Wicked Beat -- the first TD ‘Family Adventures with the National Arts Centre Orchestra’ concert of the season – celebrates the magic and mystery of Hallowe’en on Saturday October 30 in Southam Hall
It’s going to be a BOO-tiful afternoon when the first TD ‘Family Adventures with the National Arts Centre Orchestra’ concerts of the 2010-11 season take place on Saturday October 30. The musicians onstage will be in their special Hallowe’en costumes and the entire audience is invited to dress up as well – it’s going to be a scream!

Boris Brott, Principal Youth and Family Conductor, was originally scheduled to conduct this concert but he will be in Europe on that date and has been replaced for this occasion with conductor Alain Trudel. Soprano Nathalie Choquette was also regrettably forced to cancel her appearance due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict.
Ghosts and goblins come out from every corner of the orchestra to play frightful favourites as conductor Alain Trudel and the NAC Orchestra welcome special guests actor Annie Lefebvre and 20 talented performers from The School of Dance. Trick or Treat to a Wicked Beat is a one-hour bilingual concert -- including audience participation -- which takes place in Southam Hall of the NAC on Saturday October 30 at 1:30 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m.
The program for the concert includes crowd-pleasing selections from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Paul Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite. There will also be a few musical surprises, maybe even including music from a Harry Potter film.

This unique 4-concert series -- ideal for ages 5 to 105 -- is a great way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon.
TUNETOWN: Pre-Concert Activities
Pre-concert activities organized by the Friends of the NAC Orchestra begin 45 minutes prior to each concert. They include:
- A “spooky sound effects” petting zoo
- An interactive organ display (with pipes, reeds and a small portable organ) by the Royal College of Organists
- A Halloween-themed book display by the Ottawa Public Library
- A pumpkin-carving demonstration
- A Halloween craft
- A variety of musical activities provided by Music for Young Children
- TD will provide one “Go Green for Halloween” Trick or Treat bags per child
