“We reflected on the origins of the world; we immersed ourselves in the founding myths and inspiring stories of the diverse cultures that make it up.
Then we gave free rein to the images and sounds of a bold new cosmogony …”
Nathalie Derome, playwright and performer
OTTAWA, February 28, 2018 – Toddlers as young as 18 months are invited to a very important meeting with the first spark of life in the universe!
Through music and poetry, and mostly lots of clay (yes, that’s right: good old mud!), the play Magie lente (“slow magic”) draws on creation myths and legends to build a brand new world right before our eyes.
Nathalie Derome’s father is a potter, and she grew up in a house where making a mess was synonymous with learning. In Magie lente, she patiently reconstructs a piece of her childhood to share with the audience, along with some songs and poems.
“The play conveys an amazing sense of calm—the kind that comes from well-being,
from serenity, from achievement, perhaps.”
