DETAILS: For her first venture into the Shakespearean universe, director Brigitte Haentjens, artistic director of NAC French Theatre, chose to tackle Richard III, and called on her long-time associate Jean Marc Dalpé to provide a French translation. Catherine Voyer‑Léger hosts a conversation with Dalpé about the challenges he faced and the choices he made in translating and adapting Richard III, and about his work as a translator and how he approaches every project as a new writing assignment that presents a unique challenge: bringing both the form and the content of the source text alive for a contemporary audience.
The event will conclude with the launch of Jean Marc Dalpé’s translation of Richard III, published by Éditions Prise de parole, and a book signing with the translator.
