“What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves?”
This question is asked by the monk Thomas Merton and is a question that reflects what I wrestle within my soul each day. What is the use of being a Spoken Word artist if I do not face the depths within me from which my words arise?
Puente Theatre would like to acknowledge that for thousands of years the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Kwakwaka'wakw peoples have walked gently on and been the caretakers of the territories of what we today call Vancouver Island. It is with great gratitude that we acknowledge that we live, work, and create in the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən, WSÁNEĆ and Wyomilth peoples of the Coast Salish Nation. As immigrants to this land, we are infinitely grateful for the opportunity to do so, and we actively seek a new relationship with the first peoples here, one based in honor and respect, and we thank them for their hospitality. Filmed on the traditional and ancestral unceded territory of the White Cap Dakota First Nations People.
