For this week's NACO Lunch Break, join NACO percussionist Jonathan Wade and his wife Martine Dubé (a frequent violin substitute with the Orchestra) as they perform a piece by Astor Piazzolla called Oblivion, arranged for marimba and violin by their son Daniel Wade.

A native of Ottawa, Jonathan Wade received a Bachelor of Music in percussion from the University of Ottawa where he studied with Ian Bernard and Pierre Béluse. He went on to obtain a Superior Studies diploma in orchestral repertoire for timpani from the University of Montréal under Louis Charbonneau.
Since 1982, Jonathan Wade has performed as a percussionist and timpanist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. In 1983 he was appointed principal timpanist of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Wade is heard frequently with other fine ensembles including Capital Brass Works, Thirteen Strings and the Ottawa Choral Society. He performs regularly in Music and Beyond and in the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival.
In 2002, Jonathan Wade became professor of timpani at the University of Ottawa and was appointed head of percussion in 2006. He was the percussion instructor at the Ottawa Youth Orchestra Academy from 1986 to 2009. Jonathan is very active in the NAC’s Music in the Schools program with the Bangers and Smash percussion duo and as a drummer in the Ragtime Brass sextet.
Originaire d’Ottawa, Jonathan Wade a obtenu un baccalauréat en musique, option percussion, à l’Université d’Ottawa, où il a été l’élève d’Ian Bernard et de Pierre Béluse. Il a ensuite obtenu un diplôme d’études supérieures en timbales (répertoire orchestral) de l’Université de Montréal, dans la classe de Louis Charbonneau. Il est, depuis 1982, percussionniste et timbalier à l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts, et, depuis 1983, timbales solo de l’Orchestre symphonique d’Ottawa. Il se produit souvent avec d’autres excellents ensembles dont Capital BrassWorks, Thirteen Strings et la Société chorale d’Ottawa, ainsi que dans le cadre de Musique et autres mondes et du ChamberFest d’Ottawa.
En 2002, Jonathan Wade a été recruté comme professeur de timbales à l’Université d’Ottawa, où il a été nommé chef titulaire du volet percussion en 2006. Il a par ailleurs enseigné la percussion à l’Ottawa Youth Orchestra Academy de 1986 à 2009. Il participe très activement au programme Les musiciens dans les écoles du CNA avec le Bangers and Smash (duo de percussion) et le Sextuor de cuivres Ragtime.
