Earlier this spring the laureates for the 2015 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards were announced at events held in Montreal, Victoria, Vancouver and Toronto and via live stream. They were the first of many celebrations that will honour Canadian artists whose accomplishments have inspired and enriched the cultural life of our country.
For composer and conductor Walter Boudreau, the honour recognizes his work and the work of fellow artists in determining the identity of Canada. "We are more than trucks and freeways that look the same all over the planet, and commerce," he said. "The performing arts are the expression of our soul."
The laureates will gather at the National Arts Centre for a spectacular gala celebration on May 30.
