There is a strong tradition of choral singing in the United Kingdom. Rooted in the historic cathedrals throughout the United Kingdom, choral music remains an important part of it’s cultural heritage. The National Arts Centre is thrilled to feature local choirs in pre-concert performances throughout the UK Tour to commemorate the First World War Centenary.
The National Arts Centre is the lead commissioner of “Song of Poets” by Canadian composer Abigail Richardson. This powerful tribute incorporates poetry written by soldiers from Canada, France, Germany and England during the First World War. Their first first hand accounts of devastation and loss is combined with calls for understanding.
Bristol’s pre-concert performance was by The Erebus Ensemble.
