Ticket recipients from Share the Spirit community partner, Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, enjoy an evening at the National Arts Centre in 2018.

For a decade, the NAC has helped thousands of children and their families experience the magic of live performance through the Share the Spirit program. Presented by Sun Life Financial, Share the Spirit provides free tickets to vulnerable populations in the National Capital Region through community partners.

Thanks to generous donors like you, ticket recipients can see spectacular performances such as The Nutcracker, Le problème avec le rose and The Neverending Story during the holiday season and throughout the year.

Since 2012, NAC Box Office has raised funds for Share the Spirit by asking ticket buyers to round up the price of their tickets, donate back the value of returned tickets, or add a contribution to their purchase. Every donation helps bring clients of organizations such as CHEO, Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa, and Refugee 613 to National Arts Centre performances.

Jarrod Pilon from the Box Office says, “We are proud to participate in the Share the Sprit campaign each year. We are happy to know that we are helping people in our community attend performances, and it really gets us in the holiday spirit!”

Stirling Coulter-Hayward of Refugee 613 shares, “Many newcomers appreciate the opportunity to take the time to enjoy music, theatre or a ballet production. There are financial barriers to getting tickets, especially for big families and Share the Spirit allows them to experience the performance together.”

Recalling the experience of a widowed mother and her two children from Syria Stirling says, “They had been in Canada for 18 months. The war destroyed what had been a beautiful and enriching life for them. Losing everything they had worked for, especially their independence, has been very hard for them. Going to the NAC and watching an incredible production like the Nutcracker returned to them a sense of dignity and worth.”

We at the National Arts Centre Foundation thank all of the supporters of the Share the Spirit program. With you by our side, we can share the life-affirming power of the performing arts with people throughout our community.
