As the NAC Orchestra (NACO) begins another jam-packed season, we are thrilled to welcome four new musicians to our ranks. Jeffrey Dyrda (violin), Jessy Kim (violin), Sam Loeck (Principal Bass), and Andrew Johnson (percussion) started with the Orchestra at the top of the season, and you may have already heard them in action in Southam Hall.

Violinist Jeffrey Dyrda joins NACO from the Prairies, where he was most recently Assistant Concertmaster of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. An experienced and dedicated chamber musician, Jeff has previously performed with the NAC Orchestra as well as the Jacksonville Symphony, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and the New World Symphony, among other fine ensembles. He is an alumnus of Rice University, the New England Conservatory of Music and McGill University.

Jessy Kim comes to Ottawa from Music City, Nashville, Tennessee, where she played with the Nashville Symphony for its 2023-2024 season. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Jessy grew up in Vancouver and studied violin at the Vancouver Academy of Music. She has appeared in concert with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Symphony. Jessy is a graduate of the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music, the University of Toronto, and Yale University.

Sam Loeck is the ensemble’s new Principal Bass. Before joining the bass section, he spent eight years as Principal Bass of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sam studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He has performed extensively on the international circuit with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Andrew Johnson hails from Berwick, Nova Scotia, and joins the ensemble for a one-year term position. He previously held principal positions with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec. Andrew is a former fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, and has played with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Sarasota Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. Andrew attended Acadia University, Boston University and the New England Conservatory of Music. In addition to his orchestral work, he enjoys playing contemporary solos and chamber music.

Please join us in welcoming Jeff, Jessy, Sam, and Andrew to the NACO family!
