Canadian Soprano Measha Brueggergosman, the players of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the artists from the NAC’s English Theatre Company and Theatre Calgary, the NAC’s audience and countless staff members are giving their time, their talent and their spirit of compassion this holiday season.

Today, NAC English Theatre is staging a special benefit performance of Pride and Prejudice at 2 p.m., with all proceeds going to The Actors’ Fund of Canada and The Ottawa Food Bank. This is the second year in a row that the NAC’s English Theatre Department has dedicated the proceeds of one performance during the holiday season to charity: last year the run-away success of Oliver! began what many hope will become an annual tradition.

On December 16, Measha Brueggergosman, an internationally known opera singer and concert artist, will be conducting members of the NAC Orchestra Players’ Association during their annual FanFair holiday concert.

Every year, hundreds of people attend the concert to sing carols, enjoy holiday music and nibble on the goodies prepared for the annual bake sale presented by the Friends of the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

The NAC Orchestra Players’ Association hopes to raise $30,000 in support of the Snowsuit Fund and the Ottawa Food Bank during the holiday period. Donations of non-perishable food items and winter snow clothing will be accepted at the event and throughout the holiday season in specially marked containers in the lobby of the NAC.

Also in the spirit of giving, this season the NAC is reaching out to those less fortunate in our community through Share the Spirit. For a fourth year, the NAC’s Share the Spirit program, presented by Sun Life Financial, is helping those in our community who, for economic or health reasons, may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy live performances at the NAC during the holiday season and throughout the year.

Since the program launched in 2009, Share the Spirit has raised over $450,000, allowing thousands of children and their families to experience the magic of the performing arts for free.

We thank all members of the NAC Family, including artists, audiences, NAC Foundation supporters and staff for your remarkable generosity, and for making a difference in our community through your love of the performing arts.
