The Canada Dance Festival, in partnership with the National Arts Centre as co-producer, has been presenting, advancing and celebrating Canadian dance excellence in the Nation’s Capital for more than 25 years.
The 2014 edition will open with Signal Theatre's new work A Soldier's Tale. The work has been in development over a number of years and is co-produced by The Canada Dance Festival and NAC Dance.
Without their support, the project wouldn't have occurred, it wouldn't have been able to sustain itself... and to find new audiences" said Michael Greyeyes, choreographer and Artistic Director of Signal Theatre.
A Soldier's Tale, which features 13 performers, examines the aftermath of war on soldiers and their families through both dance and spoken text.
In this video, Michael Greyeyes speaks about the various types of indigenous storytelling he grew up with — music, theatre, dance and oral traditions - that informed him as an artist.
