ENCOUNT3RS is a landmark NAC commission that pairs three of Canada’s outstanding choreographic talents with three of the country’s most exciting composers.
“It's been one of the most fascinating commissions so far in my life,” says choreographer Jean Grand Maître.
Finding the right composer was integral to the artistic process, and composer Andrew Staniland was the perfect fit: both he and Grand Maître are fascinated by the impact of technology on society.
“There is beauty in the mathematics, but what about spontaneity and creativity? And how, maybe as human beings, we can change our destiny, hopefully for the better.”
ENCOUNT3RS will be presented April 20-22 at the NAC to mark Canada’s sesquicentennial.
