The Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Gala is the culmination of a weekend-long celebration of some of Canada’s greatest artists and arts volunteers. Award recipients are honoured in the House of Commons, at Rideau Hall and at the Gala at the National Arts Centre.

On the red carpet, recipients spoke about receiving the award, and about the performing arts in Canada.
“Art is an instrument of change in this country, and it was so evident in that room last night” said actor, singer-songwriter and producer Tom Jackson about the ceremony at Rideau Hall the night before. “There was something magical in the room and you could feel it. And you know what it was? It was love."
Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo said Canadians now feel that their culture reflects their own lives.
