In partnership with the National Arts Centre, this is a call for letters to and from Canadians during the Second World War (circa 1939-1945).
From these letters we will create a filmed theatre and radio piece in the style of a 1930s radio play with readings and music featuring Canadian actors and musicians to be broadcast on Remembrance Day 2021 via the NAC along with an online portal that will feature the letters, photos and biographies of their writers.
We invite Canadians to submit letters from family members, friends, and community history for inclusion in our artistic commemoration as well as for display on our online portal. We are also interested in highlighting voices that haven't had previous publication and to shine a light on all Canadians communities who played their part in WWII including women and BIPOC and in both official languages.
For context, here is an example of our 2020 program with the NAC, Letters from the Great War, originally developed with Soulpepper Theatre Company.
You can submit photos, transcripts or pdfs to DearCanadaLettersFromWW2@gmail.com between now and July 31st, 2021.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
